Das Zahlwort „Billion“ steht im Deutschen für eine Million hoch 2. Dies entspricht einer 1 mit 12 Nullen ( 10 12 ).
Im Amerikanischen Englisch bedeutet das Zahlwort „Billion“ 1,000,000,000 (= 10 9 ).
Die amerikanische Billion entspricht wörtlich der deutschen Milliarde.
Besondere Vorsicht gilt bei der Übersetzung der Billion im britischen Englisch. Traditionell steht sie für 10 12 . Aufgrund des amerikanischen Einflusses wird sie aber oft im Sinne einer 10 9gebraucht.
